Upon my first midwife visit, who should enter the waiting room, but a past abuser from about 10 years ago! I'm sure you can imagine how enjoyable it was to be trapped in a room with a man who previously tried to drown me in a bathtub, while he doted on a little girl and his partner breastfed their twins. Other than that, the appointment went well. I have since had my bloodwork and ultrasound! :) I haven't seen the m/w (Sadie), or my Dr since, but have appointments this week and will learn the results.
The ultrasound was... intense. I have a preexisting condition that caused this to be rather uncomfortable, but it was worth it! Having read too much on the internet and successfully terrified myself about all the things that could be going wrong, seeing the baby's heart flickering on the monitor was a relief. Actually, the tech wasn't saying anything or even facing the monitor to me, but I mentioned that I saw it and she said "Oh, you can see it?". LOL! I had to wait until the Dr came in, and my husband, before they would tell me, yes, that is a baby, and there is the heartbeat!
So, without further ado, here are pictures:
Here is my 8 week belly (mostly bloat I think, considering baby is the size of a raspberry):

I am very excited about our little jumping bean, and am putting all my good energy and thoughts into her/his continued health. As far as my health, I'm a little backed up and I don't want to eat (I think it's called 'food aversion'), especially chicken. I am, though. It's all normal. I am also extremely exhausted. I have to go back to work tomorrow, and I'm not sure how I will be able to handle working night shifts away from home as my pregnancy progresses. I have filed for day shifts (well, a 24 and a day, so I get the rest of the week to myself), but we'll see how that works out. There are never enough staff to work the shifts. :S
